Raid 2

On May 1st, 2025— fans of Ajay Devgn flock to the cinemas to catch a glimpse of Raid 2, the sequel to the 2018 smash hit. The second instalment promised more mind-blowing action sequences, spine-chilling tax raids, and spine-chilling one-liners from Devgn. But the most important question still lingering in everyone’s head was, “Kitna kamaya?” (In layman’s terms, how much did it earn?)

Let’s put the numbers in perspective without all the fluff.

The Numbers Game

Before the movie’s purported release, the initial reports were all over the place. Some claimed that the box office earnings were nowhere close to what was estimated, with the borderline silly ₹1.31 crore figure. Decking fans and sceptics alike, the trackers were throwing out more than … Relax people, that’s simply an estimate based on incomplete information.

Here is what went down:

For starters, 1.5 to 2.3 lakh tickets were already sold, which means bookings were solid, and Multiplexes such as PVR and Inox reported 87000+ tickets being bought that morning. Now, consider all these ticket sales filling Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium!

As for the final estimates, trade experts speculate around ₹14-15 crore net on Day 1, which marks a pretty good start for a non-holiday release (yes, it does spring a holiday on Maharashtra Day, but it isn’t exactly a Diwali-level holiday).

Why This Matters

Preparations For A Sequel: The Indo-Pak raid “Raid” (2018) had a first-day collection of ₹10.04 crore and became a sleeper hit. Those numbers might look small, but the tables have turned in the sequel’s favour. This time, the stakes are set much higher at a ₹150 crore budget (phew, those extravagant warehouse shootout scenes cost a lot!).

The Clash Aspect: Raid 2 had to share screen space with Sanjay Dutt’s tragically hilarious The Bhootnii and Nawazuddin’s Costao on the OTT platform. Unlike others, Devgn’s loyal fans turned out in full force.

Lovestruck Audience: The thing that caught the audience’s attention most was Ajay Devgn’s “psychotically brooding” performance paired with a cheesy courtroom combat finish. One of the replies on Twitter wondered, “After this, even my CA will start wearing aviators.”

The Broader Context

While the figure of ₹14-15 crore does not register as a “Bahubali-level” number, that range is superb for a film that is more dramatic than exaggerated masala. It will perform autonomously better with the right publicity, as its predecessor did.

Pro Tip: Live trackers mid-day? Don’t trust them; they are as accurate as predicting the weather when you’ve already soaked. Just wait for the final figures.

What’s Next?

As long as nothing changes over the weekend for Raid 2, we can expect a ₹50-60 crore 3-day total, which is pretty impressive. Oh, and of course, talk of Raid 3 is now in full swing, “Abhi toh party shuru hui hai,” as Devgn would say.

PS: For those still confused, ₹14 crore is approximately 28,000 iPhone 16s. Or, you know, pay for Amay Patnaik’s next tax raid.
