North Sikkim is the most dramatic corner of the state – alpine valleys, hot springs and one of the highest lakes on earth. Here is a tried-and-tested 5-day plan.
Day 1: Arrive in Gangtok
Reach Gangtok from NJP or Bagdogra, complete permit formalities and rest up for the altitude ahead.
Day 2: Gangtok to Lachen
A long, scenic drive north past waterfalls and the Chungthang valley to the quiet village of Lachen.
Day 3: Gurudongmar Lake, then Lachung
An early start for Gurudongmar Lake at around 17,800 ft, sacred and stunningly blue, then transfer to Lachung.
Day 4: Yumthang Valley and Zero Point
Explore the Valley of Flowers and the snow point at Yumesamdong before returning to Gangtok.
Day 5: Departure
Transfer back to NJP or Bagdogra with a stop for last-minute shopping on MG Marg.
Note: This route needs ILP and Protected Area Permits, which we arrange for you. Acclimatise well and carry warm layers year-round.
